Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum

Banff, AB

The Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum is dedicated to the appreciation, interpretation, demonstration and display of the cultures, traditions, and values of the First Nations of North America and their trading partners. The museum seeks to show how the people of this land lived and adapted to their surroundings and each other prior to contact with European culture, and how they continued to adapt after European influences.

Buffalo Harvest Days

Fort McLeod, AB

Experience Blackfoot culture, brought to life through storytelling, arts and crafts on Alberta Culture Days. Join for Blackfoot guides on a guided tour through the building. Participate in our “Living off the Land” artifact demonstrations. Hear stories from Blackfoot Elders.

Experiencing Blackfoot traditional ways and culture. Buffalo Rock Tipi Camp offers guided hiking tours by a Cottonwood Valley expert, providing Traditional ceremonies led by Blackfoot Elders. In addition to Story-telling in which Storytellers who share their time old tales of the rich history of the plains people and authentic foods and drinks.

Edmonton Indigenous Art Park

Edmonton, AB

The City of Edmonton, Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations, Métis Nation of Alberta, Edmonton Arts Council and Indigenous artists have partnered to develop an Indigenous Art Park that exhibits Indigenous artworks. The Indigenous Art Park, named ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11∞, features 6 artworks by Canadian Indigenous artists. The artists were asked to create artworks that “tell the story of this place”.

Dreamspeakers Festival

The Dreamspeakers Festival Society is a registered non-profit charitable status organization that produces an international film festival that celebrates the latest works by Indigenous peoples innovation in film, video, radio, and new media, presenting selections of Indigenous works from around the globe since 1993. Glenbow Musuem 

Calgary, AB

Glenbow is located on Treaty 7 territory, and respects the history, languages, traditions and cultures of the nations on whose traditional land we reside: the Blackfoot Confederacy, which includes Siksika, Piikani and Kainaiwa; the Tsuut'ina, the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, including the Chiniki, Wesley and Bearspaw bands, and the Métis Nation Region III. Their contributions to the museum and their continued support are integral to our success in educating our visitors and sharing the rich heritage of this land. We further acknowledge the vital connections we have to other indigenous people (including other First Nations, Inuit and Métis), whose visual and intangible culture is represented in our collections and exhibitions.

Janvier Gallery

Alex Janvier, Denesuline, from the Cold Lake First Nations, Treaty 6 Territory, has been a professional artist for several decades. He has numerous magnificent and distinct Janvier murals in buildings across Canada. While his work is available in many galleries, he has his own near Cold Lake, Alberta.

Indigenous Culture & Wellness Centre

The Indigenous Culture and Wellness Centre (ICWC) will be a community cultural centre benefiting all Indigenous people - as well as non-Indigenous people who wish to learn more about Métis, Inuit and First Nations people and practices in the Edmonton area. The ICWC shall be a welcoming place for all people; a space for urban Indigenous folks to come together to connect their mind, body and spirit.

The Royal Alberta Museum offers a variety of different collections that offer schools an option for tours. One of the collections is named Indigenous studies and offers 18,000 objects of Indigenous origin. These objects date from the mid-1800's to the present.
